The Foundation for Geauga Parks is the fundraising arm for the Geauga Skywatchers Club. The club hosted monthly meetings at libraries and Geauga parks. Many local experts brought their sophisticated equipment to help teach the wonders of the universe while honing skills in mathematics, engineering, optics, observation, reason and critical thinking. Established in 2019 with the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society and the Geauga Park District, the Club offered free monthly classes for students in grades 6-12, but open to all. From 2019-2024, the Skywatchers served more than 1200 attendees at 62 different sessions.
Thanks to generous supporters to the Foundation, telescopes are now available for check-out from Geauga County public libraries. Borrowers must have a library card and watch a short video before borrowing a telescope. The six libraries have loaned out telescopes 174 times from 2019-2024.
