About the event
Thompson Ledges Park Commissioner Mike Kuehn, West Creek Conservancy's Director of Conservation, Brett Rodstrom, and retired Naturalist Dan Best team up to share how this ecologically unique place has been preserved, made accessible with new trails, and interpreted with outstanding exhibits. They’ll share plans for future developments to expand trails and programs. Tour the new Francis Spatz Leighton Nature Center then trek off-trail into property (not yet open to the public) that protects unique and endangered plants and animals. Here botanists recently discovered new species of mosses and plants that were thought to be extinct! With three forest types overlapping within the park, cool sandstone seeps, streams and pristine lowlands, this park is an ecological gem.

DETAILS:
Off-trail trekking into the north side of the park (not yet open to the public) requires good walking skills, sturdy footwear, and optional walking staff.
Plan three hours if you trek with the group, or hike the improved trails on your own, some flat and some with stairs, after the Nature Center tour.
Meet in the parking lot at 16755 Thompson Rd., (not the entrance on SR 528).
Ticks are active this time of year - to help protect yourself you may want to wear light colored clothing, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.
No pets this time.
