About the event

Chardon Middle School graduation - 100 students

May means it’s time for the annual Binocular Blitzes to wrap up the Nature Scopes program for Geauga County’s 5th graders! We’ve received this year’s school schedule for the events taking place throughout May at The West Woods – 9465 Kinsman Rd, Novelty, OH 44072 - from 9:30am–12:15pm.

*Note the change in venue to The West Woods this year (not at the Rookery)

For each date, we’re hoping to have at least one FGP representative attend to share that students are able to keep their binoculars thanks to our generous donors.

A few helpful notes from GPD:

  • Please arrive by 9:30am and check in with a naturalist.

  • If you plan to take photos or video, let us know so teachers can confirm photo permissions.

  • The program runs rain or shine—dress for the weather if you plan to join the outdoor sessions.

General schedule:

  • 9:30–9:40: Welcome and overview; volunteers and FGP representatives introduced.

  • 9:40–9:55: “Graduation” moment and announcement from FGP Representative that funding was sufficient for students to keep their binoculars!

  • 9:55–11:55: Students rotate through outdoor stations using their binoculars.

  • 12:00: Students return to the building (they usually eat lunch there), naturalists and staff clean up and depart.

If you haven’t attended before, these are truly rewarding events and a great way to see our support in action.
