About the event
Step into a rarely seen landscape on a guided hike through the newly acquired northern section of Thompson Ledges, not yet open to the public. Led by geologist Dr. David Saja and several local naturalists, this special walk offers a unique opportunity to experience one of Geauga County’s most remarkable natural treasures. Along the way, you’ll learn about the significance of Ohio’s northernmost Sharon Conglomerate sandstone outcropping and discover what makes this landscape so ecologically and geologically distinctive. Expect striking rock formations, emerging trails, caves, old-growth forest, and the chance to encounter several listed species that make this place so extraordinary.
This hike is ideal for curious nature lovers, geology enthusiasts, and anyone eager for a behind-the-scenes look at a protected property before it officially opens. Included in the ticket price: Following the hike, attendees will enjoy lunch and three wine samples at Grand River Cellars (5750 S. Madison Rd., Madison, OH 44057).
